Prior to PSU, I was... an instructional assistant and the Outreach and Intake Coordinator for the Gateway to College Program at Portland Community College.

When I was applying to graduate school, I wish... I had been brave enough to visit the Publishing Program office, talk with Dennis Stovall, and meet some students. It would have given me confidence and made applying less scary than turning in my application and just hoping.

I chose my program because... when I read in the PSU class schedule that the Publishing Program has an Editing class and an Advanced Editing class, I fell madly in love! I embrace publishing because it combines theory and practice—it is the love of literature married to the need to bring literature into the world in a concrete, responsible way.

My favorite class/professor so far has been... Impossible to answer! Each member of the publishing faculty offers unique and essential wisdom. I can say that I frequently draw on lessons I learned from the editing classes (Book Editing, Advanced Editing, Copy Editing), from Book Design & Production, and from Intro to Book Publishing.

My professional goals after I graduate from PSU are... to continue my job as copy editor for the peer-reviewed scientific journal Astrobiology (by the way, the editor in chief is Dr. Sherry Cady of PSU's Geology Department). Also, I wouldn't mind being the first copy editor in space, provided they bring me back to Earth safely.

My favorite spot on campus to study is... the Ooligan Press office, Neuberger Hall 369. Come visit. I'll brew some tea.

My key to success at PSU is... it's all about getting involved, taking every opportunity to grow further, dig deeper. What I love about the Publishing Program is that our student-run Ooligan Press provides myriad opportunities to participate in the work of an active publishing company. So much good has come into my life simply from volunteering for Ooligan and accepting assignments within the press.
