Prior to PSU, I was... very actively going broke, working in local theatre.

When I was applying to graduate school, I wish I knew... that I was going to fall thoroughly in love with college, that I would find such a sense of belonging, and how much joy I would have in spending my days among highly literate, educated, and passionate writers. Oh the joys of being surrounded by people who understand my jokes!

I chose my program because... as I was gathering the best of my fiction to put together a portfolio for the Fiction Writing Program, I realized none of it was half as good as my nonfiction.

My favorite class/professor so far has been... Professor McGregor's Immersion Journalism class was the best class I've taken. We each focused on one story the entire term. Rather than rely on conventional interviewing alone, we became flies on walls so that we could observe our stories unfolding in their natural state.

My professional goals after I graduate from PSU are... to keep writing. I didn't enter the program to change my career, just to feed my soul.

My favorite spot on campus to study is... Smith's fourth floor; the English department lounge; the park at least three trees from the guy spouting end-of-the-world messages; the library back when it had chairs big enough to sleep in; and the steps of the Benson house, among others.

My key to success at PSU is... blurting out what's in my heart before my head catches on, competitiveness, a soul bent on adventures, and an insatiable interest in minutiae.
