Prior to PSU, I was... bartending in Austin, Texas.
When I was applying to graduate school, I wish I knew... just how much specialized attention I would get from my professors.
Portland State is a big university, and yet I feel like I can trot over to any of my prof's offices and have good conversations about good subjects
(theory, writing, teaching) and feel a real shift in my ideas based on this intellectual engagement. The professors in the writing program here
really are curious about the student's learning process.
I chose my program because... writing and teaching are the only things I want to do, professionally,
and the program affords me time and opportunity for both.
My favorite class/professor so far has been... the Poetry Workshop with Michele Glazer, though she
can be hard as nails, and I leave class sometimes shaking.
My professional goals after I graduate from PSU are... to write and teach poetry.
My favorite spot on campus to study is... outside the library under a tree.
My key to success at PSU is... I believe it is fundamental to throw yourself into the program and
not look back. There is no other place I want to be right now.
