Prior to PSU, I was... working as an Editorial Intern at Illumination Arts Publishing Company in Bellevue, Washington.

When I was applying to graduate school, I wish I knew... exactly how busy I would be. You hear that graduate school is stressful and intense, but you don't really understand it until you are in it.

I chose my program because... not only would I have the opportunity to learn about publishing through taking classes, but I would get to work for an actual press as well. I couldn't think of a better way to dive into the publishing industry. I knew I would get to experience all of publishing facets—acquisitions, editing, design, and marketing. This is something I couldn't have done if I had just gotten a job as an editor. I knew that I would be more than prepared for any publishing job that would come my way after I graduated.

My favorite class/professor so far has been... Publications Management taught by Marty Brown. Marty's class was extremely practical. She taught my classmates and I how to start our own presses. The class was extremely interesting, and it was a valuable experience to learn about the business side of the industry.

My professional goals after I graduate from PSU are... My first goal is to find a job working within the publishing industry. Ideally, I would like to work on the editorial side of things, but I am keeping my options open. Looking farther into the future, it would be great to own a small press one day.

My favorite spot on campus to study is... I don't know if it's my favorite spot to study on campus, but I spend most of my time in the basement of the old Extended Studies Building. One of Ooligan's offices is down there. You can usually find me there in a meeting, writing rejection letters, or doing something Ooligan related.

My key to success at PSU is... getting involved. In order to succeed in the publishing program it important to get involved with the press right from the beginning. The most unique aspect of the program is having the opportunity to work at Ooligan-a real press with real book projects. So the sooner you get involved, the more you'll learn and the more successful you'll be.
