Portland's very own writers workshop haven, The Attic, runs several different workshops on poetry, fiction, non fiction, and more through a variety of writers and David Biespiel.

Since 1997, the Community of Writers has helped to improve students' writing by training teachers and bringing professional writers into classrooms.

PSU's Department of English offers a variety of classes for writers and the opportunity to compete for department writing awards.

Fishtrap, Inc.  The Fishtrap Gathering provides a time and a place for writers and others in the trade—editors, publishers, librarians, booksellers, readers—to get together and talk about what is being written and what should be written in the West.

Haystack Summer Program  “We are privileged in the Northwest to have a rich harvest of artists, musicians, writers, environmentalists, and gardeners. This year we are bringing you a fine selection of instructors who have been associated with the Haystack Program over the years as well as some exciting new ones. Come to Haystack this summer where Cannon Beach provides a beautiful natural environment for Portland State University's ensemble of weekend and weeklong workshops.”

Literary Arts, Inc.  Literary Arts is a non-profit organization created to support people who write and publish books, and people who read them.

Mountain Writers  The Mountain Writers Series is a comprehensive program which features authors of regional, national, and international reputation presenting readings, lectures, discussion sessions and workshops in a variety of locations throughout the region.

The National Writers Union organizes freelance, contract and some staff writers—literary writers, tech writers, Web-site writer/creators, Internet and multimedia content providers, business and instructional writers, cartoonists and comics writers, ALL writers—to get what we deserve for our work.

The Northwest Playwrights Guild provides a reliable forum for the exchange of information and ideas about playwriting for playwrights living in the Northwest, provides opportunities to participate in readings, workshops and contests, and holds meetings that encourage networking and help playwrights establish wider contacts in the theatre community.

NorthWestWriters features and helps to promote books by new and self-published authors of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska & B.C., Canada.

Northwest Writing Institute of Lewis and Clark College The Northwest Writing Institute gathers a community of writers for reflective experiences in the practice of writing.

The Oregon Multimedia Alliance was founded in 1994 in response to the rapid convergence of different media technologies-computers, telecommunications, film & video. The Oregon Multimedia Alliance is more than a trade association. Six hundred members strong, it is a broad alliance of associations, businesses and individuals who want to work together to usher the age of multimedia.

Oregon Writers' Colony is a non-profit literary organization dedicated to nurturing the writing skills of its membership. We own and maintain the Oregon Writers' Colony House overlooking the Pacific Coast in Rockaway Beach Oregon. The house is operated as a haven for writers who wish time and privacy for concentrating on works in progress. We also provide workshops and conferences at the Colony House and throughout Oregon.

PoetSpeak is a forum for Northwest writers that each year produces two public performances, two anthologies, and numerous poetry columns in newspapers and magazines.

Portland Writers provides an extensive list of local Portland authors with biography information and publication promotion.

Events at Reed College, featuring a variety of readings through the Visiting Writers of Reed.

The Society for Technical Communication — Willamette Valley Chapter The Society's diverse membership includes writers, editors, illustrators, printers, publishers, educators, students, engineers, and scientists employed in a variety of technological fields. With more than 20,000 members worldwide, STC is the largest professional organization serving the technical communication profession. Our local Willamette Valley chapter is one of the organization's best!

In several diverse countries, including Kenya and Russia, the Summer Literary Seminar program offers seminars in Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Playwriting, and other country-based sessions.

The Waterways Project of Ten Penny Players, an arts in education program, uses the arts to integrate literacy, creative expression, publishing, performance, service learning, computer skills, and critical thinking into a curriculum created for a network of schools, libraries, community based organizations, and distant learners.

Willamette Writers provide and encourage a creative environment and support system for current and aspiring writers.

Writers On The Edge, Inc. was formed in April 2002 to oversee the existing Nye Beach Writers’ Series and to expand programs that provide literary arts education to the coastal community and public school students.

Publishers
Ananse Press publishes works of history and culture.

The Bear Deluxe, an award-winning magazine, celebrates the big tent theory of literary arts, including fiction, essay, poetry, investigative reporting, news, creative opinion, reviews and interviews in each issue. Unsolicited submissions—both fiction and nonfiction—and query letters are encouraged.

Bellingham Review welcomes submissions of poems, stories, essays, reviews, plays, and photographs. There are no limitations on form or subject matter.

The Burnside Review is an independently published poetry journal hailing from Portland, Oregon. We are open to all kinds of poetry, ideas, perspectives and approaches. However, we are biased towards poetry that finds beauty in unexpected places, that sings, that moves the heart, that surprises and above all that shows great care and craft.

Caffeine Destiny is a Portland-based online magazine that publishes poetry, essays, and book reviews.

The Clackamas Literary Review is a nationally distributed, semi-annual journal edited and published at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, Oregon. We are a grant funded journal functioning under the auspices of the English Department. CLR promotes the work of emerging writers and established writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction.

Glimmer Train welcomes work from established and emerging writers.

The Grove Review is a literary journal dedicated to serving writers and artists by offering a first-rate venue for publishing their craft and by fostering a vibrant artistic community. We seek to offer our readership a rich cross-section of creative work, deeply rooted and informed by the evolving talent here in the Pacific Northwest, but open to trends and movements around the world.

Open Spaces is a quarterly magazine that provides a forum for voices that speak with knowledge and insight to issues affecting people in every region of the United States and around the world. As the name suggests, Open Spaces is dedicated to an openness of attitude, intellect and approach. In this spirit, it presents thoughtful, well-researched articles on a variety of subjects from a number of different viewpoints.

The mission of Oregon's Future magazine is to publish opinions —argued logically, supported by facts, defended with passion, and tempered by tolerance.

Like all publishers, large and small, the OSU Press specializes in publishing certain kinds of books. We publish mainly scholarly books and books of particular importance to the Pacific Northwest, especially those dealing with the history, natural history, cultures, and literature of the region or with natural resource issues.

Timber Press welcomes submissions pertaining to horticulture, botany, and natural history, as well as topics of regional interest including photography, history, architecture, art, and culture of the West and Pacific Northwest.

Zoetrope: All-Story welcomes submissions of short stories and one-act plays no longer than 7,000 words. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, and first serial rights are required.

Bookstores
Powell's Books offers the largest collection of new and used books west of the Mississippi.

Wrigley-Cross Books carries used stock in nearly all categories, both hardcover and paperback, at reasonable prices. The stock includes a wide selection of modern firsts, specializing in the areas of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, and horror. Collectible paperbacks will also be found in these areas as well as general fiction and non-fiction titles.
