SPECIAL INTERESTS: Debra Gwartney has a master's degree in journalism with an emphasis in creative nonfiction from
the University of Arizona, where she studied with Vivian Gornick. She also earned an MFA in Nonfiction and Literature from Bennington College. Her work has
appeared in such literary journals as Creative Nonfiction, Fourth Genre, Prairie Schooner, Triquarterly Kenyon Review,,
Washington Square Review, and Salon.com. She's been awarded fellowships from the Wurlitzer Foundation, Literary Arts, Hedgebrook, and the American
Antiquarian Society. She's a former correspondent for Newsweek and for The
Oregonian, and has contributed freelance articles to dozens of newspapers and
magazines.
